Sound Play - Term 2 2026 (Thursdays)

Service Description

Sound Play runs for 10 weeks (during the school term) and is suitable for children aged 18 months to 4 years. Research shows that young children learn speech sounds most effectively through meaningful interactions repetition within play, songs and book experiences. This group is intentionally engaging and developmentally appropriate, rather than highly structured or drill-based. Each week, children are introduced to a focus sound (or sound pair) within a fun, themed session. Children participate in guided play, shared book reading and songs that naturally encourage opportunities to hear and practise the target sounds. The speech pathologist models sound strategies and supports caregivers to use these techniques during everyday interactions. Sessions run for 45 minutes. The sounds targeted each week are: Week 1 - /p/ & /b/ (Piranhas) Week 2 - /m/ & /n/ (Monkeys) Week 3 - /w/ & /y/ (Whales) Week 4 - /t/ & /d/ (Dinosaurs) Week 5 - /h/ & /ng/ (Hats) Week 6 - /k/ & /g/ (Caterpillars) Week 7 - /f/ & /v/ (Fish) Week 8 - /sh/ (Sheep) Week 9 - /s/ & /z/ (Zoo) Week 10 - /l/ (Loud) A workbook is included in the cost of the group which is provided in the first few weeks of the term. It provides optional activity ideas and practical strategies to support carryover at home. The workbook is not used as a structured teaching tool within sessions, as the focus of the group is interactive, play-based learning. Mums, Dads, Grandparents and other close family members are welcome to attend the session with pricing being based per child. Younger or older siblings are also welcome to attend free of charge and are invited to join in during the activities as long as they are not disrupting the session. NOTE: Hello Friend Speech is located on the first floor of the Pender's Building with stair access only. Free and paid parking is available nearby in carparks located off West Street or at Nicholas Street Precinct. A toilet is available onsite. Booking policy: Payment is not charged at the time of booking. An intake form and invoice will be sent to the provided email with payment options. A minimum of 4 participants are required for the group to run. If the minimum is not reached, the participant will be given the option to change to another group or to wait for the following term. NDIS Funding: Children with Agency or Self Managed NDIS plans can book in for sessions using their funding. Cancellation policy: No refund will be provided for non-attendance.
