Service Description

Lego Club runs for 10 weeks (during the school term) and is suitable for children aged 5-9 years. LEGO Club is a structured, small-group program designed to support the development of social communication, teamwork and collaborative problem-solving skills through hands-on building activities. Using a clear and consistent session format, children work together in small teams to build LEGO models while rotating through specific roles. This structured approach supports children to practise key communication skills in a motivating and interactive environment. Skills Targeted: - Giving and following instructions - Active listening - Turn-taking - Negotiation and compromise - Flexible thinking - Problem-solving -Co-operative teamwork Rotating Roles: Each week, children take on one of the following roles: The Engineer – Reads and relays the instructions. The Engineer tells the Supplier which pieces are needed and directs the Builder on how to construct the model. The Supplier – Locates the correct LEGO pieces. The Supplier listens carefully to the Engineer, selects the required pieces and provides them to the Builder. The Builder – Assembles the model. The Builder listens to the Engineer’s instructions and uses the pieces supplied to complete the build. This role-based structure encourages children to practise both expressive and receptive language skills while developing confidence in social interactions. Due to the collaborative format, a minimum of 3 participants is required for the group to run, with a maximum of 6 participants to ensure meaningful engagement. Parents and caregivers are welcome to attend sessions to observe and support generalisation of strategies at home. Pricing is per child. Location: Hello Friend Speech is located on the first floor of the Pender’s Building (stair access only). Free and paid parking is available nearby in carparks off West Street or at Nicholas Street Precinct. Toilets are available onsite. Booking Policy: Payment is not charged at the time of booking. An intake form and invoice will be sent to the nominated email address with payment options provided. NDIS Funding: Children with Agency or Self-Managed NDIS plans may use their funding to attend.
