Language Play - Term 2 2026 (Mondays)
This playgroup is for 18 months - 4 year olds to support language development.
Service Description
Language Play runs for 10 weeks (during the school term) and is suitable for children aged 18 months to 4 years . Language Play is a play-based, evidence-informed group that supports early language and communication development. Research shows that young children learn language best through meaningful interactions, play, songs and book experiences. This group is designed to be engaging and developmentally appropriate for toddlers rather than highly structured. Each week, children are introduced to a new vocabulary theme and participate in guided play experiences, shared book reading, songs, movement activities and hands-on exploration. The speech pathologist models language strategies and supports caregivers to use these strategies during everyday interactions. Sessions run for 45 minutes. Term 2 topics include: Week 1 - Australia Week 2 - Body Parts Week 3 - Mother's Day Week 4 - Road Transport Week 5 - Pets Week 6 - Shapes Week 7 - Dinosaurs Week 8 - Ocean Animals Week 9 - Winter Week 10 - Insects A workbook is included in the cost of the group. The workbook is introduced and discussed during the early weeks of term and is designed to complement what is explored in sessions. It provides optional activity ideas and practical strategies to support carryover at home. The workbook is not used as a structured teaching tool within sessions, as the focus of the group is interactive, play-based learning. Mums, Dads, Grandparents and other close family members are welcome to attend the session with pricing being based per child. Younger or older siblings are also welcome to attend free of charge and are invited to join in during the activities as long as they are not disrupting the session.
