Service Description
Prep Ready Club runs for 10 weeks during the school term and is designed for children in the year prior to commencing Prep. While early literacy and numeracy are important, a successful transition to school also relies on many other skills including listening, following instructions, building friendships, confidence in group situations, emotional regulation, attention skills and independence with everyday routines. Each week, children participate in a themed session targeting a key skill needed for school success. Sessions include shared book reading, group discussions, games, hands-on learning experiences and structured activities designed to build communication, confidence and independence in a supportive small-group environment. Activities reflect the types of expectations children will experience within the classroom setting. Sessions run for 45 minutes. Weekly topics include: Week 1 – Starting School & Managing Big Feelings Week 2 – Listening & Group Time Skills Week 3 – Following Instructions Week 4 – Confidence, Emotional Regulation & New Experiences Week 5 – Building Friendships Week 6 – Social Skills, Sharing & Flexible Thinking Week 7 – Focus & Attention Skills Week 8 – Early Literacy Foundations Week 9 – Independence & Classroom Routines Week 10 – Prep Ready Celebration Children attend this group independently, as one of the key goals is building confidence participating in a group environment without caregiver support, similar to the school setting. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to discuss progress and strategies with the Speech Pathologist throughout the term, with time available after each session for questions and discussion. Families will receive weekly parent information sheets outlining the skills covered, why they are important, and simple ways to continue supporting development at home. Location: Hello Friend Speech is located on Level 1 of the Pender’s Building. Please note stair access only. A toilet is available onsite. NDIS Funding: Children with Agency or Self Managed NDIS plans can access sessions using their funding. Booking Policy: Payment is not required at booking. A minimum of 4 participants is required for the group to run. If minimum numbers are not reached, participants may transfer to another group or wait for the following term. Cancellation Policy: No refunds are provided for non-attendance.
